Manage workload

Overview

To help you understand the current workload of teams or individuals, Socratic analyzes each person's assignments and uses its intelligent forecast to determine the probable time remaining to complete their assigned work.

How it works

Socratic's intelligent forecast accounts for both assigned work and actual time spent to-date, providing realistic views of team utilization. This helps identify bottlenecks, balance workloads, and plan for future capacity needs. Workload calculations include both active work and any committed future work (i.e. assignments in backlog), giving you a complete picture of team capacity over time.

Types of questions you can ask

Team workload questions

  • "Which teams have more than 100 days of work?"
  • "What is the workload of the Frontend team?"

Individual workload questions

  • "Who has more than 20 issues assigned to them?"
  • "Who has more than 30 days of work?"
  • "Who has less than 20 days of work?"
  • "What is Claire's current workload?"

Comparison questions

  • "Show me workload by person"
  • "Show me workload by team"
  • "Which team has the highest workload?"
  • "Which team has the lowest workload?"
  • "Who has the smallest workload?"
  • "Who has the highest workload?"

Future date analysis

  • "Show me workload by team as of Oct 1st?"
  • "Show me teams that will still have more than 100 days of work as of Nov 1?"
  • "Show me people that will still have 30 days of work on Nov 1"

Capabilities & usage

Specify time ranges

You can ask about workload as of now or what the workload would be like as of a certain date (e.g., Nov 1st). For example:

"What will the Frontend team workload by as of Nov 1st?"

"What will Sarah's workload be as of Nov 1st?"

Specify thresholds

You can ask about teams or people with workload (in days) greater than X days, or less than X days or you can use ≥ or ≤. You can also ask about workload in terms of assigned issue count. For example:

"Show me teams with over 100 days of work"

"Show me people with over 10 assigned issues"

Filter by different dimensions

You can filter your analysis by:

  • Teams: "What is the engineering team current workload"
  • People: "Show Sarah's current workload"

Ask for breakdowns by:

  • By person: "Show workload person"
  • By team: "Show workload by team"

Reading the results

Socratic provides a natural language summary of your capacity data, highlighting utilization patterns and availability. It will also contain a sheet with a list of teams or individuals with specific details about the workload of each.
